School Library

At Brightside we love to read! We have raised money and received funding in 2019 and in 2023 to develop the indoor and outside libraries.

The indoor library

In 2019 we had the walls decorated, purchased new shelving, created new displays and bought new comfy seating and cushions for the children to sit on. The school council helped to choose what displays and what kind of furniture we wanted. We also bought many new exciting books that we know the children will love reading! We are so proud of how it looks now! Come and use it when you can!

The children have at least one session in the library per half term to encourage them to love reading and try different books.

The school council are currently carrying out research to find out what books the children at Brightside like to read. We will then be purchasing more books to keep our library well stocked.

The Outdoor Library

In 2023 we received funding from The Foyle Foundation to develop an outdoor library.  This will be a place that children can access at playtime and lunchtime to develop their reading for enjoyment.

The school council chose the design of the building and decided which books they would like in there.  They chose books from authors such as Roald Dahl and Julia Donaldson.  They also asked for non-fiction books about jobs, football, super heroes and puzzle books.

Come and visit our outdoor library every Friday morning where children and grownups can swap books.  This is on the school playground.  There are lots of different books for the children to borrow and enjoy.

Opening Times

The library is open between 8.00-4.15. There are many different exciting books to choose from. Please help yourself and return the books within a week.

Library Club

There is a library club every Friday lunchtime for year 2 pupils. The pupils can sign up weekly to enjoy books and quiet games in the library.
